A larger pot of £3.5 million has been committed to the ring-fenced fund shared between the levy boards in England, Scotland and Wales in the coming year.

Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing told the Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) conference in Glasgow this was an extension of the interim arrangements which are in place pending the creation of the levy repatriation scheme.

For the last two years, AHDB, QMS and Hybu Cig Cymru have collaborated to promote British meat overseas and worked to promote the nutritional benefits of red meat.

Mr Ewing said: “After a decade of trying we are getting near a solution to levy repatriation. It should be a reality by April 2021.

“I am also making £100,000 available to AHDB and QMS fund a monitor farm legacy programme for one year.”
