To own, deliver and optimise the buying and selling strategy for a number of areas within the category.  Sustainably growing market share and cash profit through a competitive and distinctive customer offer, aligned to our strategy to deliver Destination Sainsbury’s.

This role is working within the wider business team under a C6 Buying Manager; the role has accountability for our existing range across a number of underdeveloped areas and responsibility for writing and implementing a strategy to maximise our need state coverage and drive trial within these areas. The buyer will also work with the cross functional team to review our Sainsbury’s brand products identifying opportunities for product improvement, NPD and cost savings through consolidation, tender or efficiencies.

What I need to do

  • Know and understand the relevant retail market and the category performance within that
  • Develop and execute a customer focused category plan in line with corporate strategy
  • Influence key stakeholders to gain commitment to the category plan
  • Lead relevant cross functional projects through to delivery
  • Work with the range analyst to build an appropriate product range that delivers a market-leading commercial advantage
  • Implement Pricing & Promotional strategies in line with the PQF guidelines
  • Negotiate optimum product cost with suppliers through a thorough understanding of the e2e supply chain
  • Support the Own Brand team to drive commercially favourable NPD development
