Job Role:
The Trainee Livestock Buyer role will support the Livestock Procurement Manager in ensuring a sufficient supply of cattle to meet both customer requirements and specifications at the best possible price for the company in order to contribute to maximizing profitability and company success.
We are looking to welcome an enthusiastic and friendly person to join our ABP Sturminster team!
Reporting to the Procurement Manager, you will assist him in driving the Sturminster Livestock team and be responsible for ensuring the procurement of livestock at the best possible price and in accordance with farm assurance requirements, using industry best codes of practices and regulations.
ABP Sturminster has the advantage of being a small site but part of a large and reputed company. This role will be very diverse and has full support of our Head Office central team.Benefits:

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

– Contribute to the procurement of livestock at the best possible price and in accordance with farm assurance requirements

– Ensure the livestock purchased meet production requirements and are in line with kill plans

– Co-ordinate with livestock agents, farmers, agents and other livestock suppliers

– Liaise with lairage and abattoir production

– Carry out farm visits and maintain relationships with farmers, including producer group meetings

– Ensure livestock deliveries are to schedule

– Contribute to the recording and maintenance of slaughter information and data

– Maintain own CPD including food safety knowledge and skills

– Ensure the team adheres to current Animal Welfare legislation and company operating procedures at all times with regards to safe movements, handling and production

 

Knowledge and Experience:
Previous experience working at a similar or smaller site.
Has experience of working in a fresh food factory environment dealing with red or white meat.

 

Skills:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to delegate effectively when required and demonstrating flexibility towards changing business demands.
Proactive, dynamic and motivational with the ability to deliver results in a fast paced and ever changing environment.
Strong planning and organisational skills, demonstrating flexibility towards changing business demands.
Work cross functionally to support the needs of the business with the ability to use own initiative.
