Sofina acquires Scottish farms to improve its pork supply chain

Food processor Sofina Foods Europe (Sofina) has announced that it has acquired equipment, livestock and a number of farms from Rattlerow Scotland as part of its plan to strengthen its integrated pork supply chain.

The deal will see up to 12 Rattlerow Scotland employees transferred to Sofina Foods Europe, with Rattlerow continuing to manage elements of genetic input and technical oversight.

Sofina said the collaboration would enhance the productivity and sustainability of livestock production for the company.

The pork division of Sofina Foods Europe will reportedly take full operational control of the farms, while Rattlerow Scotland will advise on the management of a genetic programme and the supply of breeding females into existing commercial herds.

Steve Urwin, agricultural director at Sofina Foods Europe, said: “We are excited by the opportunities this collaboration provides us. The ability to align genetics and production closer to customer requirements and become more agile as we build on the strength of Sofina Agriculture with an exceptional team, will produce pigs and feed that better support our customers and Scottish agriculture, while enhancing the sustainability of our supply chains.”
