GB pig prices for week ending December 3, 2022
Weekly pig prices and slaughter data for Great Britain.
The EU-spec GB SPP dropped below the £2/kg mark for the first time since mid-September, as it fell back by a hefty 0.62p to 199.74p/kg in the week ending December 3, 2022.
Ever since the average price index breached the £2 barrier during the week ended September 17, it has shifted up and down by tiny margins, only ever reaching a high of 200.72p/kg.
The 0.62 drop represents the biggest movement either way in the SPP since early September, and while it will be a disappointment, it comes as little surprise on the back of a series of reductions in processor weekly contribution prices. Woodheads-Morrisons has come down by 10p over the past few weeks, while Karro’s contribution price of 167p/kg is around 33p below the average pig price.
The SPP is now 57p ahead of a year ago.
The APP is more stable, although the reporting is a week behind the SPP. Having risen for three weeks in a row, the APP was down by 0.15p to 205.37 during the week ended November 26, putting it just under 5p ahead of the SPP.
