Scotbeef announce potential redundancies at Wolverhampton site
54 jobs at the Wolverhampton meat processor are understood to be at risk of layoffs, more than half of the 98 strong workforce currently employed at the site.
A worker employed at the factory told the food company that in a letter received last week, he was told his job was at risk of being fired. This was due to Scotbeef losing a major deal with Aldi.
Loss of Aldi contract
A letter to all employees at the site said there was a risk that the Aldi store at the Wolverhampton site would have to close. The layoffs would be a result of “not enough work to maintain current staffing levels at the Wolverhampton site”.
“We will maintain the Hicare work, which requires about 29 employees to be retained,”read the letter. “The company will continue to look for ways to avoid redundancies and to minimize the number of employees affected. We will be consulting with representatives of all affected employees in due course.
“If the company cannot avoid the need for redundancies then everyone currently employed at the Wolverhampton site is at risk of redundancy.”
