GB pig prices: SPP falls
Weekly pig prices and slaughter data for Great Britain.
The EU-spec SPP fell by 0.91p to stand at 209.50p/kg during the week ended July 6, cancelling out all the previous week’s gain.
The SPP is currently at it’s lowest level since February 2023 and is down by 3.29p/kg since the beginning of the year.
The APP, which includes premium pigs, has fluctuated between 210p/kg and 213p/kg since the beginning of the year.
During the week ended June 29, gaining 0.13p to stand at 212.65p/kg, after gaining 0.1p the previous week. This put it 2.24p ahead of the SPP for the week.
The European reference price (grade E) moved up by 0.7 during the week ended June 30 to stand at 187.22p/kg, after lifting 0.4p during the previous week.
Estimated GB slaughterings were down by just over 10,000 on the week to 151,238 head during the week ended June 29, according to the AHDB. This was 2,000 below the 2023 figure, and 29,000 below the 2022 figure for the week.
