Australian Beef Industry Hit by China’s New 55% Tariff

Australia’s beef sector has reacted with strong disappointment after China confirmed it will impose a 55% tariff on beef imports exceeding quota limits, a move that could significantly disrupt Australian export flows.

According to reporting by The Guardian Australia, industry leaders have warned the tariff could affect up to A$1 billion (£520m) worth of Australian beef exports destined for the Chinese market. While shipments within quota levels remain subject to existing tariff arrangements, any volumes above those thresholds will now face the sharply higher levy.
