About us
Meatex – Levelling the Playing Field for Businesses
Over the years, the meat industry has undergone significant changes, with consolidations and mergers giving rise to fewer, larger companies that tend to focus on serving supermarket chains. As a result, smaller businesses have often found themselves squeezed out.
That’s where Meatex comes in. We exist to make sure our customers, from butcher shops to large scale caterers and manufacturers, have access to top-tier products and pricing, levelling the playing field and giving every business the opportunity to thrive.

Our history
Meatex was founded by Tony Vardy in 2012, when he started the business working from his home in Seaford, on the south coast of East Sussex in the UK.
Tony started his career working as an apprentice butcher in 1983 and has been involved in the meat industry ever since.
After working as a butcher for a number of years, he became a slaughterman and then a hide demonstrator, working as a meat industry troubleshooter for factories around the world. Eventually he became the manager of an abattoir.
One Friday, the boss of the abattoir said to Tony, “I like the way you talk to people, how’d you like to try selling?” After giving it about five minutes thought, Tony took the plunge into sales, and he hasn’t looked back since.
His years of experience on the factory floor and behind the scenes have made him uniquely qualified to understand the needs of customers, and he used that knowledge to create Meatex, with the goal of doing things differently—and better.
Starting as a small-scale meat trader, Tony recognised the opportunity to challenge industry norms by creating a web-based business. Meatex wasn’t just about selling products; it became a hub for news, events, and job listings, growing into a go-to portal for the entire meat industry.
Growing from Strength to Strength
What started with just Tony and his wife has blossomed into a thriving company. By 2015, they had their first employee, and by 2018, Meatex had outgrown its initial setup, moving to its current office in the heart of Seaford.
Today, Meatex boasts a team of over forty people across three locations: our head office in Seaford, a wholesale trading office in Telford, and a seafood factory in Grimsby.
At Meatex, every member of our team comes with years of experience in the meat industry. So when you call us, you’re not just getting a customer service representative—you’re speaking to someone who knows the business inside and out.
