Young’s confirms closure of Grimsby site with loss of 200 jobs
Young’s Seafood will close its Marsden Road site in Grimsby, with the anticipated loss of more than 200 jobs.
The company has been unable to find a way to keep operations going, with the loss of a retail contract understood to have led to the move. The Ross House team has worked through consultations with staff and their representatives since the proposal was announced in June.
Work is now being scaled back ahead of it ceasing in late October, with remaining processing heading to its recently expanded Humberstone Road site and facilities in Fraserburgh, Scotland. Some jobs are being created, with exact numbers not revealed.
A spokesperson for Young’s Seafood said that it was “with regret that we have been unable to find a viable solution to maintain future production at the site”.
They continued: “The closure has been necessary following changes in future demands for products produced at the site and we explored a number of options to maintain operations and to protect roles. Sadly, this has been unsuccessful.
“During the coming months, a number of new roles will be created at the Humberstone Road and Fraserburgh sites to support the transfer and we will make every effort to offer alternative opportunities across the group where possible to those affected.
