Dublin Butcher Slams Rogan’s Diet as ‘Propaganda’
A Dublin butcher has warned against the carnivore diet trend popularised by podcast star Joe Rogan and others.
The carnivore diet has also been promoted by psychologist Jordan Peterson, and various TikTok stars including Courtney Luna. But Barry Kerrigan, who runs Kerrigan’s Craft Butchers, has urged people to stick to a balanced diet which includes fruits, grains and vegetables.
He said: “As much as I would love to see people across the country eating steak for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the truth is it would be irresponsible of me to promote what isn’t in keeping with the proven benefits of a balanced diet.
“The all-meat diet that’s been trending in recent months consists of eating only ruminant animals – animals that eat plants – cows, sheep, deer and the like. But that’s where the connection to plants ends unfortunately with fruits, veggies, and grains completely off the menu.
“We all know that protein is essential to growth and recovery, and it keeps us fuller for longer which is important to weight management. And a great way to get it is from animal produce, and we’re spoiled across the UK and Ireland in that the quality of our meat is exceptional.
“However, I prefer to live by the age old saying – everything in moderation. As someone who spends their days researching the nutritional components of food to create quality, healthy meals, I’ve learned that eliminating nutrient-rich food groups can impact on our immunity. Furthermore, the gut is extremely sensitive, and needs a varied diet to keep all our different gut bacteria happy.”
