Overview:
The Abattoir Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations within the beef slaughtering facility. This includes managing staff, ensuring compliance with food safety and health and safety regulations, maintaining high standards of animal welfare, and optimising production efficiency. The role demands strong leadership, excellent communication skills, operational expertise, and a commitment to quality and ethical practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of beef slaughtering operations from intake to carcass dispatch.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and animal welfare regulations.
- Manage and train production staff, ensuring high performance and adherence to SOPs.
- Monitor and improve operational efficiency, yield, and throughput.
- Liaise with veterinary inspectors and regulatory bodies.
- Maintain accurate records for traceability, quality assurance, and audits.
- Implement and uphold health and safety standards across the facility.
- Coordinate with logistics, procurement, and sales teams to ensure smooth workflow.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and cost control measures.
- Other duties as required.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in abattoir or meat processing management.(preferably beef)
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, food safety standards, and animal welfare legislation.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet production targets.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with traceability systems and production reporting tools.
