Ireland: Those in the sheep sector must surely have felt a cold chill in the veins at Meat Industry Ireland’s (MII) warning that livestock prices could be impacted if results for Covid tests from factories were delayed.

The comments were taken to be largely directed at the beef side, but last week’s special meeting of the Special Oireachtas Committee on Covid-19 was a direct result of the Covid outbreak at Kildare Chilling, one of the country’s biggest processors of sheep.

Despite that factory’s temporary closure, the country’s largest sheep processing group ICM yesterday raised its quote for lamb by 10c/kg to €4.90+10c/kg QA, while Dawn Ballyhaunis continue on €5.00+10c/kg QA.
