Role: Abattoir Operative
Location: ABP Yetminster, Sherborne, Dorset (DT9)
Salary: Competitive (on application)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:00–17:00 (includes 2 × 30-minute breaks)
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Reporting to: Abattoir Manager

This is a critical operational role ensuring lambs are processed in line with animal welfare requirements, ABP procedures, and customer specifications. Where licensed, operatives will carry out slaughter tasks and ensure carcasses are dressed and trimmed correctly, working to high standards of safety, hygiene, and quality.


Key Responsibilities

As an Abattoir Operative, you will:

  • Dress and trim carcasses to ABP and customer specifications as directed

  • Work efficiently to meet production deadlines

  • Optimise production yield while complying with legislation and company standards

  • Maintain operational effectiveness of equipment and report faults promptly

  • Demonstrate consistently high standards of animal welfare

  • Follow SOPs and all health & safety legislation

  • Carry out tasks safely and responsibly at all times

  • Complete training as required (full training provided)

  • Adhere to PPE requirements and health & safety instructions

  • Be physically fit and comfortable with manual, physically demanding work
