Shift Pattern: Monday to Saturday (5 days per week)

ABP UK is recruiting a Butchery Machine Operator to operate TVI slicing equipment within its chilled production facility in Glasgow. This role is responsible for delivering accurate, consistent slicing to customer specification, with a strong focus on food safety, yield, quality, and traceability.


Key Responsibilities

As a Butchery Machine Operator, you will:

Equipment Set-Up & Pre-Operational Checks

  • Complete all pre-start checks on TVI slicers and associated equipment

  • Select correct slicing programmes for each product

  • Verify calibration and alignment before production begins

Slicing to Specification

  • Ensure steaks meet required thickness, weight, and visual standards

  • Monitor slice consistency and adjust machine settings as required

  • Stop production and escalate immediately if product is out of specification

Yield, Giveaway & Weight Control

  • Achieve target yields and actively monitor giveaway

  • Adjust slicing parameters based on weight checks

  • Report deviations promptly

Quality & Traceability

  • Complete raw material checks before slicing

  • Verify traceability prior to production

  • Escalate any product integrity or quality concerns

Operational Flow & Efficiency

  • Maintain an organised slicing area

  • Communicate proactively to prevent bottlenecks

  • Take action to minimise downtime

First-Line Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Carry out basic machine resets and clearances

  • Report recurring faults to Engineering

  • Support planned and reactive maintenance activities

Food Safety, GMP & Hygiene

  • Follow GMP, hygiene, and food safety standards

  • Handle tools and equipment safely

  • Maintain a clean and compliant work area

Communication & Teamwork

  • Communicate clearly with production, technical, and engineering teams

  • Report issues early and accurately

  • Support training and upskilling of new operators


The Ideal Candidate

You will have:

  • Strong understanding of beef primals and slicing characteristics

  • Experience using TVI slicers or similar slicing technology

  • High attention to detail and quality

  • Good numeracy with understanding of weight control and yield

  • Strong communication skills and ownership mindset

  • Comfort working in chilled production environments
