Brown Brothers in Kirkconnel have seen major investment over the last year and are looking to expand the Butchery Department as well as planning for the future of Butchery with a new Butchery Academy.
This exciting role is ideal for an existing Butchery Manager or Supervisor who has a passion for meat and who strives on upskilling the current team and improving safety, people, quality, yields and throughputs.
The hours of work are 5.30am – 2.30pm Monday to Friday. The minimum annual salary will be £30,000. It will be dependent on experience and will be discussed at interview
Responsibilities
- To work in partnership with all other site functions to deliver group and site objectives
- Ensure all products are processed and manufactured according to specification as per production plan
- Ensure complete delivery of the butchery production plan
- Ensure all documentation – production, technical, H & S and HR are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Drive continuous improvement through the butchery department, driving forward targets and performance levels by leading and motivating the team.
- Manage all line / department resources (labour, materials and machinery) in the most cost effective way.
- Identify opportunities to enhance operational efficiency to reduce costs and improve quality
- Manage butchery team and provide guidance and training as required to ensure they are competent and efficient in their job roles.
- To participate in supplier and external customer visits

- Working to tight deadlines and managing conflicting priorities
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Comfortable in the factory environment as the role is predominantly factory based
- Supportive and encouraging approach to skills training
Experience and Qualifications
- Previous food production management experience
- Qualified/skilled butcher with knowledge of meat processing and butchery practices preferable but not essential
