Role Definition:

Accountable for technical aspects of our retail operation in conjunction with the Technical Services Manager, ensuring customer and legal expectations are consistently met in relation to Food Safety ,Integrity and Product Quality.

To develop an indepth knowledge and understanding of the equipment capabilities at the site

To work in partnership with the site Process team ensuring that all NPD & EPD products are launched by fully utilising and adopting the ABP NPD/EPD Development Process

To support the site with the completion of actions to deliver specific process improvements to current practices and methodologies

To support the site with the completion of site trials to validate the suitability of new/novel ingredients

To support the site with trials on new/innovative equipment with the ability to measure and complete detailed accurate reports outlining the output of trials

To have a clear understanding of any packaging innovation and site trials. To support the sites with any process related issues that require a resolution.

To ensure products specifications are produced in a legal, safe and manner which ensures they comply to the relevant customer and legislative requirements.

To ensure products are developed in a manner that follows the ABP NPD Process and meets the required timescales and timelines which align with the customer expectations.

Key responsibilities:

Management of the process and specifications team during the daytoday development of new and existing products, across the primary and retail side of the business

Empower Team to deliver against Technical Improvement Plan for the site

Ensure training is up to date, relevant and practically applied in every aspect of the teams’ roles

Identify any potential gaps in the team and create improvement plans around this

Ensure constructive communication across the Technical divisional teams across each shift

Management of cold sampling programme to help drive quality

From Farm to Fork – ensuring Legal, customer and ABP compliance is followed in everything we do through process and specification development

Keep abreast with legislative and industry changes that may affect the Retail division

Lead Customer, Industry and Compliance Body audits in the Retail and Primary area

Ensure the Quality Management System is applied and relevant to every aspect from product development

To manage and development process and specifications performance on a regular basis to ensure all audits/checks are being carried out in accordance with the existing procedures and to the required frequency.

Customer Satisfaction needs to be at the heart of all our focus

Building the relationship with the customer ensuring time effective communication

Align the Technical and Operations Team with our customers ‘Brilliant Basics’ KPI’s

Ensure specifications and Codes of Practice are followed and fully implemented and embraced in everything we do

Ensure customer complaint trending is completed, investigating adverse trends finding the root cause and putting improvement plans in place

Ensure products are developed in a manner that allows their safe execution, and ensure the effective management of process and packaging development

Promoting GMP/GHP to a Gold Standard across every shift whilst completing factory trials and processes

Working with the wider ABP Team 

Build inter departmental relationships to drive quality and consistency with efficiency in mind

To take part in the NPD Concept to Launch process in conjunction with the Retail Technical Manager and to ensure customer satisfaction, and ensure gated process is adhered to

Carry out any additional duties that may be reasonably requested by the manager.

To age and promote a positive Food Safety Culture within the site ensuring all requirements are met, regularly reviewed and action plans developed and implemented actively and effectively

Liaise with the Senior Management Teams where required to ensure all teams are working towards the same goal

Liaise with ABP Group divisional teams where required

Knowledge/Skills/Qualifications:

Third Level Food Science qualification (or equivalent with industry experience)

HACCP Level 3

Food Hygiene Level 3

Food Law

Food Safety Culture

Safe Product Design

Weight Control

Minimum 5 years Technical experience at a Management Level within a fastpaced chilled food manufacturing environment

Strong and effective communication, both verbal and written

People Management Skills

Strong problemsolving skills

Red Meat industry knowledge and experience

Retailer experience

Selfmotivated

ContinuousImprovement focus
