Kepak St. Merryn in Merthyr Tydfil has combined beef and lamb processing and packing facilities. We offer beef and lamb products ranging from retail ready cuts for butchers’ counters to branded packaged meat, all as part of our service; raised on open pastures, sourced from local farmers and hand-selected by our master butchers, we produce beef and lamb products with integrity and unmatched quality assurance.

We are currently recruiting for a QA Inspector to work in our CPM Department within our busy manufacturing site in Merthyr Tydfil.

This is a full time position working from 4.45am to 5.15pm – 3 days on/3 days off with a salary of £14.44 per hour.

Responsible for ensuring that all products leave the plant within the legislative and/or customer specified limits.

Responsibilities / KPI’s:

  • Auditing: Conduct a diverse range of internal audits on-site, focusing on key areas including:
  • Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)
  • Glass & Perspex (G & P)
  • Fabrication/Maintenance
  • Foreign Body Prevention
  • Labeling & Traceability
  • Label Verification: Ensure that all labels maintain a high-quality printed finish and that every piece of information is accurate and relevant. Confirm that all product claims are validated at the labeling stage (e.g., customer approved, Organic, etc.)
  • Raw Material Intake: Verify that all incoming raw materials conform to the site’s requirements and specifications.
  • Non-Conformances: Oversee the coordination of non-conformance findings, including actions taken, and report these to the relevant department managers and suppliers to ensure the completion of any necessary corrective actions for everyday issues.
  • Supplier Communication: Relay inspection results, including quality claims and rejections, back to the supply base to ensure transparency and improvement.
  • CCPS, Operational Pre-Requisite Points Verification, Product and Process Inspections: Guarantee that all checks are conducted at the required intervals and meet the H.A.C.C.P. standards, including:
  • Metal Detection
  • Product, packaging, and tare accuracy
  • Product & environmental temperature monitoring
  • Environmental swabbing
  • Product/Specification match
  • Pricing & additional label verification
  • Product Quality, Testing and Assessments: Ensure all products leaving the factory meet the defined criteria outlined in the relevant customer specifications (e.g., weight, fat content, color, temperature & presentation). Collect and prepare products and materials for testing.
  • Equipment & Scale Calibration: Conduct calibration checks on various equipment, including scales and other machinery, as part of daily production operations. This includes calibration and verification of, but is not limited to:
  • Scales
  • Metal detector units
  • Steriliser unit (temperature checking)
  • Gas analysers
  • Documents: Complete all necessary documentation accurately and legibly. Most documentation processed by the Q.A. Department must be retained as part of the site’s due diligence defense.
  • Audit Ready: Contribute to maintaining site standards to ensure all areas are perpetually audit ready.
  • Troubleshoot and assist: Address any quality issues that arise and support all teams in achieving the required standards.
