At Scotbeef Ltd, we are a family-owned business with more than 100 years of experience in supplying high-quality meat products to the UK retail sector, foodservice and export markets. Our company was founded in 1920 and is now run by the 4th generation of the Galloway family.

With sites strategically located throughout the UK, we have an exciting opportunity at our site in Heysham for an experienced Quality Manager to join our team who will be responsible for managing our site QMS and parts of our Food Safety Plan that ensures we uphold our values in Quality, Integrity and Innovation.

Your main duties in this role will be:

  • Lead and manage our site Quality team ensuring they have the skills, resources, and capability to deliver overall team objectives.
  • Ensure all customer, company and legislative specification and quality requirements are in the scope of the QMS.
  • Internal auditing of systems.
  • Work with the site Technical Manager (TM) to develop and maintain an effective QMS and Food Safety Plan.
  • Ensure an effective internal audit operation meets the requirements of the QMS.
  • Play an active role in the site HACCP team.
  • Support the site TM in administering the technical KPIs.
  • Carry out customer complaints and other non-conformance investigations to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support the engagement of customers’ technical teams.
  • Support managing regulatory contact involving knowledge of food hygiene and standards legislation.
  • Support managing third-party accreditation requirements.
  • Maximise team performance, efficiency and service levels and drive employee engagement.
  • Develop enhanced and future fit employee skillset and flexibility.
  • Support trainee development to ensure the ‘next generation’ workforce.
  • To ensure all Scotbeef products are sourced and manufactured to the Food Safety & Brand Integrity requirements defined by our high profile customer requirements & BRC standards.

To be considered for this role you should have the following skills/experience:

  • Experience in food production as a Quality Manager or Supervisor.
  • Ability to promote quality standards and ways of working leading by example.
  • Results driven and great attention to detail with good strategic ability.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels.
  • Powerful facilitator and motivator.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and keen to support others’ development.
  • Strong people management and influencing skills.
  • Accreditation Food Hygiene and HACCP equivalent at minimum level 3.
  • BRC experience (highly desirable).
  • TACCP/VACCP experience (highly desirable).
  • Strong H&S understanding and compliance leadership.
  • Good numeracy skills.
  • Speaking, writing, and understanding excellent spoken and written English language. (This is an essential health & safety, traceability, management, and quality control requirement which will be tested as part of the recruitment process).

The successful candidate should also possess the following qualities:

  • Be able to work well and remain calm under pressure.
  • Work at ease within a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrate initiative to proactively deal with problems before they escalate.
  • Adaptable, flexible in approach.
  • Be able to grasp new concepts/systems quickly.
  • Work with minimal supervision/direction.
