Organisation: Humane Slaughter Association (HSA)
Location: Remote (UK-based) with international travel
Salary: £47,389 – £58,225
Contract: Permanent, full-time
Closing Date: Sunday 8 February 2026 (23:30 GMT)
This is a senior leadership role for a purpose-driven professional committed to delivering real-world improvements in livestock animal welfare. You will lead and coordinate the HSA’s operational, training, and advisory work worldwide.
The Role
As Technical Lead, you will lead and coordinate the HSA’s practical technical work worldwide. You will manage a small specialist team while ensuring high standards across training, advice, and education services.
In addition, you will support the expansion of online learning and digital training programmes. At the same time, you will act as a trusted technical voice, promoting proven and practical improvements to animal welfare.
Because this is a senior role, you will also work closely with industry, regulators, and international stakeholders to deliver meaningful change.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
-
Lead HSA’s operational fieldwork promoting humane transport and slaughter
-
Coordinate training, advisory, and education services across multiple regions
-
Manage team performance, development, and workload planning
-
Translate research into practical welfare improvements
-
Ensure consistency, accuracy, and scientific credibility across all outputs
-
Represent HSA with external partners in the UK and internationally
As a result, your work will directly influence animal welfare standards beyond the farm gate.
The Ideal Candidate
You will be highly organised, people-focused, and confident leading teams. Importantly, you will inspire others while maintaining a collaborative and supportive approach.
You will also feel comfortable delivering technical training and professional advice. However, you will balance technical expertise with clear, practical communication.
In addition, you must be able to work independently in a remote role and travel internationally when required.
About the Humane Slaughter Association
The Humane Slaughter Association is a unique international charity dedicated to improving the welfare of farmed animals beyond the farm gate.
For example, this includes welfare at markets, during transport, at slaughter, and during emergency killing. Although the charity is based in the UK, it works worldwide to maximise animal welfare.
Therefore, HSA combines research, education, and practical advice to deliver measurable and lasting improvements across the livestock sector.
