AHDB Pork’s weekly pig prices, slaughter data and commentary for Great Britain
The EU spec SPP stood at 196.46/kg for the week ending August 6, a marginal increase of 0.60/kg on the previous week. Although the SPP is still creeping up week-on-week, AHDB said it is still falling short of the cost of production, which it estimated at 231p/kg in July.
Estimated slaughter for the week was 168,100 head, down 9,500 head on last week. Average carcase weights returned into decline this week, dropping 550g to sit at 87.14kg. This is the lowest weight seen this year and only 880g higher than this time last year, the smallest year on year difference in 2022 so far.
