Redundancies announced at Morrisons Woodhead abattoir
Staff at a Morrisons owned site in Colne have been told they are at risk of losing their jobs.
Morrisons Woodhead Bros made the announcement on Tuesday (May 23) morning, according to staff.
Morrisons confirmed there would only a ‘small number of redundancies’ but did not specify the number.
A staff member, who did not wish to be named, said he was unsure what he would do.
He said: “It was not something we were expecting to be honest, it came out of the blue.
“I know the company have been saying they are investing a lot in other parts of the business but then why are people being made redundant?
“My colleagues have been great to work with and the announcement has come as a shock to us.”
A spokesperson for Morrisons said: “Following a detailed review of our current operating structure we are proposing to make some changes which, if they go ahead, may result in a small number of redundancies.
“We will do everything we can to help the Morrisons colleagues who are affected by these proposed changes and are now entering a period of consultation.”
