Wezep – Katowice, 2 April 2024, Plukon Food Group (Plukon) has reached an agreement in principle with the shareholders of Algas SP Sp. z o.o. (Algas) to acquire 100% of their slaughtering and processing activities.

Algas, under the leadership of the Szatan family, is a second-generation family business based near the southern Polish city of Katowice with a slaughterhouse and a processing plant. The company initiated its poultry processing activities in 1997 and now established itself as a prominent local player in southern Poland’s broiler slaughtering and poultry processing sector. The 2023 turnover of Algas amounted to approximate EUR 35 million.

The acquisition of Algas represents an important moment for both Plukon and the Szatan family to invest in further growth in activities in Poland. Integrating Algas within the Plukon Food Group creates new opportunities and increases its capacity to supply our retail and foodservice customers with high-quality fresh and frozen poultry products in Poland and to various European markets.

The Szatan family will continue to be involved in the business operations of the slaughterhouse and a processing plant. Additionally, the Szatan family-owned broiler farms will continue to deliver broilers to the Algas slaughterhouse.

Kees Kraijenoord, CEO Plukon: “This strategic acquisition of Algas strengthens our position in Poland and underlines our commitment to growth and leadership in the European poultry market. We are delighted to welcome Algas and the Szatan family within our group and to realize synergies arising from our combined assets and capabilities.”
