Welsh abattoir submits request to build meat vending machine
A livestock market site has sought permission from Ceredigion County Council planners to construct a meat vending machine building at its abattoir site Cig Oen Caron in Wales.
Cig Oen Caron currently operates from Rhyd Y Gwreiddyn in Tregaron and according to the planning permission, once “ran a family-operated butcher” in Tregaron town centre.
The business said it supplies meat for butchers and businesses throughout the county and produces meat packages for local farmers upon request.
Owner of Cig Oen Caron Rhys Evans put forward the planning application as part of his vision to “bring the abattoir up to 21st century standards” while also trying to “diversify and compete with supermarkets”.
The meat vending machine building proposed in the submitted planning permission will reportedly house two vending machines, to be stocked with “locally-sourced specialty cuts” of meat daily.
The planning permission stated: “Through providing this type of facility within walking/cycling distance to the residents of Tregaron and the local area, we believe that the carbon footprint as a result of this proposal will be reduced.”
