Vion Sells German Beef Plant to ABP Food Group
ABP Food Group Agrees Deal to Buy Vion’s Buchloe Slaughterhouse in Germany
ABP Food Group has agreed a deal to acquire Vion Food Group’s Buchloe slaughterhouse in Bavaria, Germany, as Vion continues its phased withdrawal from the German market.
The Buchloe site processes around 90,000 cattle each year and employs approximately 270 people, making it a significant beef processing facility within the Bavarian livestock region.
Financial terms have not been disclosed. Completion of the transaction remains subject to antitrust clearance, regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. Vion said the site will continue operating as normal until the deal is completed.
The sale forms part of Vion’s wider divestment of its German operations, following other recent agreements involving its Crailsheim and Waldkraiburg sites. For ABP, the deal strengthens its continental European beef processing footprint and gives the Ireland based group access to an established facility in one of southern Germany’s key cattle producing regions.
For the wider meat trade, the agreement highlights continued consolidation and restructuring across European slaughtering and processing, as major operators review capacity, regional supply chains and long term market positioning.
