The EU-spec SPP stayed relatively stable in the week ending 22 February, down 0.05p on the week to average 162.73p/kg. More pigs weighing over 100kg came forward than last week, while the price paid for these pigs fell, weighing on the overall price. The price for pigs weighing 70-99.9kg still rose by 0.04p on the week, averaging 163.78p/kg. Supply and demand are reportedly stable overall.

The SPP continues to track over 25p above the same week last year and the five-year average.

Estimated throughput rose by 1% (1,100 head) on the week to total 176,700 head. Despite the increase in pigs over 100kg, movements in other weight bands meant average carcase weights were relatively stable overall. Average weights were up just 20g to 85.73kg.

In the week ending 15 February, the EU-spec APP rose by 0.28p on the week to average 164.92p/kg. The SPP stayed relatively steady during the same week, so the price gap widened to 2.14p.
