THE BUSINESS ITSELF

The business is now in its 30th year of trading and as such has built up an enviable name for the quality and range of its products. The wholesale business accounts for approximately 90% of volume of product produced, however the retail shop compliments this in terms of turnover given the retail mark up of the goods sold in the shop. The shop also offers locally sourced deli products such as pies, chutneys, jams, pâtés and a selection of South African produce which people travel from afar to purchase. The wholesale business includes many hotels, cafés and restaurants along the east coast, from Aldeburgh to the north and Chelmsford to the south.

PREMISES

As stated previously the business operates from two premises in Ipswich with the retail shop being in a prime position in a busy pedestrian cut-through in the heart of the town centre. The separate production unit is situated a short distance away on the outskirts of the town and whilst previously providing a retail shop, this is closed to the public and it now concentrates solely on the production of the sausages and burgers.

The retail unit is spread over three floors with the top floor providing desk space, a tall fridge, under-counter fridge and freezer, a kitchenette and w.c with windows to the front and rear, and a carpeted floor. At ground level is the main shop with two fridge display units, one showcasing the fine range of raw sausages and burgers and the other for cooked produce such as pies, scotch eggs and cheese. To the other side of the entrance door you will find an ambient display unit for the deli produce. Within the shop you will also find a meat slicer, sink, scales, till and display racks for sauces, chutneys and such like. The shop also benefits from a 5 star food hygiene rating.

The production unit is situated in a parade of shops including a Post Office in a heavy residential area and whilst retaining a sign written shop front it is closed to the public. The front room houses three under-counter freezers plus a tall fridge/freezer, a chilled display unit, sinks, stainless steel work surfaces and storage space. Tiled throughout, there is an open door through to the middle production room with stainless steel counters, scales, burger press, large floor scales, hand wash sinks, cling film roller and cutter, and storage for herb and spice mixes. It is again open through to the main production room with vinyl non-slip floor.
