Kepak St. Merryn in Merthyr Tydfil has combined beef and lamb processing and packing facilities. With dedicated retail packing capabilities within our business we offer beef and lamb products ranging from retail ready cuts for butchers’ counters to branded packaged meat, all as part of our service.

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Hygiene Manager to work in our busy Retail Packing Department on Nights.

This is a full time, permanent position working Monday to Friday. Hours are flexible to cover the shifts.

 

Job Purpose:

To manage the hygiene team within the retail packing area, supporting the production process by providing a cleaning service – always ensuring sufficient cleanliness of the production areas and all associated equipment. Implementing best practice hygiene techniques to promote food safety, quality & environmental compliance, maintaining standards at all times to deliver this.

Delivering strong hygiene performance within the area to maximise the efficiencies and driving cost reduction, minimising operational downtime through ‘best-in-class’ cleaning standards and techniques.

 

Role Key Accountabilities

  • Planning of hygiene schedules in order to deliver a best in class cleaning service, ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness at all times.
  • Ensure all hygiene documentation and cleaning records are up to date at all times.
  • Develop and maintain the nights hygiene CPM team in order to adequately support the departmental and business needs.
  • Actively engage in routines to maintain a pro-active approach to hygiene, food safety, quality & environmental standards across the site, liaising with technical management and operational business units to drive standards and improve KPI’s.
  • Have active involvement in any continuous improvement projects and commissioning of equipment.
  • Schedule and deliver training of the nights hygiene team.
  • Support site audits, internal and external, pro-actively dealing with non-conformity to drive compliance standards.
  • Managing the provision of hygiene chemicals and relevant operational equipment required to facilitate the cleaning of the factory.
  • Assist with the implementation and delivery of the sites technical strategy, enforcing departmental structure and reporting lines.
  • Acting as primary point of contact with the sites approved hygiene partner(s) and chemical suppliers – conducting periodical reviews in conjunction with the site Head of Technical.
  • Management and responsibility of all chemical storage locations at site, ensuring appropriate storage in line with COSHH and site procedures.
  • Ensuring the continual maintenance and relevance of the cleaning instruction cards (C.I.C’s) and all product information and safety data sheets relevant to hygiene chemicals.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • HACCP – Level 2 essential, Level 3 desirable
  • Food Safety – Level 2 essential, Level 3 desirable
  • Relevant factory hygiene / cleaning training essential
  • COSHH / Chemical Handling training essential

Experience

  • Previous experience within a hygiene management / supervisory role in FMCG
  • Previous experience in a hygiene role within the meat, chilled foods and/or added value sectors desired

Knowledge/Skills

  • Sound understanding of hygiene requirements and cleaning methods
  • Good understanding of current health & safety requirements
  • Strong people management and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a hands-on approach to hygiene management.
