GB cattle prices stabilise

The average GB prime cattle deadweight price saw its first increase for seven weeks, appreciating 0.9p to average 433.4p/kg in the week ending 20 August.

This increase means average prices are now 65p above the 5-year average, and 25p above prices this time last year.

Within the all-prime average for the week, all categories saw a strengthening of prices; overall steers gained 0.6p to average 434.5p/kg, young bulls increased 0.2p to average 425.4p/kg, and overall heifers increased 1.3p to average 434.3p/kg.

However, overall cow prices once again saw a decrease, reducing 1.4p to average 346.7p/kg, with animals at -O4L spec seeing a larger decline of 5.9p to average 366.7p/kg.

Despite the easing in price, the overall cow price achieved 53.4p above last year’s average for the same week.
