Colyford Butchers, is a well-established, independent, family-run shop in Colyford, Devon. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team as a Butcher Apprentice.
The Role
In this hands-on apprenticeship program, you’ll gain valuable experience in all aspects of butchery under the guidance of our skilled and experienced team. You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Learn the art of breaking down whole carcasses into various cuts of meat.
- Master knife skills and the safe and proper use of butchering tools
- Assist with preparing a variety of fresh cuts for retail sale, following the highest quality standards.
- Gain knowledge of different meat cuts, their characteristics, and appropriate cooking methods
- Learn about customer service and assist with serving customers, potentially offering recommendations (depending on your progress)
- Maintain a clean and organised work environment, adhering to health and safety regulations.

- A keen interest in food and a passion for high-quality ingredients.
- Enthusiasm and the ability to take initiative in a fast-paced environment.
- Good hand-eye coordination and the ability to learn new skills quickly.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- The ability to lift moderate weights and work in a cold environment.
